  21.   SPACING:
  22.     The letter E (dit) is the basic unit of time in the International
  23.   Morse Code and is one time unit. The letter T (dah) is three times the
  24.   length of the E or (dit). The space between parts of a letter is equal
  25.   to about one time unit. The space between letters equals three time
  26.   elements and the space between words is equivalent to five dits.

  28.     The SPACE MULTIPLIER allows you to increase the space between characters 
  29.   without making the dit and dah longer. The WPM will only be correct when 
  30.   the SPACE MULTIPLIER is set to 3 since the space between characters is 
  31.   supposed to be 3 dits.
